A day in Bhaktapur

Today we stopped by the ancient town of Bhaktapur, which is located on the eastern side of the Kathmandu valley, surrounded by mountains and which lies on the ancient trade route between Tibet and India.
This former capital of Nepal is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and this busy little town is incredibly well preserved and probably the best example of what Nepal looked like in years gone by. Aside from its temples, the town is also famous for its production of traditional arts, crafts and food.

Lost in Gion

Gion is Japan’s most famous Geisha district and is filled with authentic wooden houses, temples, shrines, tea houses and exclusive Japanese restaurants.
It is the polar opposite side of Japan than the sprawling, futuristic, neon cities.
Today we got lost amongst the backstreets and temples in the area, starting with Choin-in – a temple that featured in Last of the Samurai.
