Snake Alley in Taipei

As I mentioned in my Longshan post earlier today, I recently took a daytime wander down ‘Snake Alley’ in Taipei.

Huaxi Street has famously become known for being a place where you can go to sample snake meat and drink down a glass of fresh snake blood.
Over the years this place has obviously become watered down into more of tourist market street, as there’s more stores selling tat, dildos (still a red light district), and places to have a foot massage, than there are actual snakes. But on the day I visited there were a few slithering around tanks. As well as some boiling in a pot.

Strangely, and comically, some tanks are even filled with plastic and rubber snakes!? More in keeping with the dildo shops up the road, perhaps.
There’s also more obvious cuts of very graphic meat on tables throughout this area. I was hungry before I arrived, but certainly not when I left. And that wasn’t because I ate whilst there.
