A trip to Boudhanath Stupa

Boudhanath Stupa in Kathmandu is located on the ancient trade route from Tibet through Nepal.
Tibetan merchants have rested and offered prayers here for many centuries and many Tibetan refugees now call the area home. The UNESCO world heritage listed stupa is said to entomb the remains of Kassapa Buddha.

It is a colourful place to visit, with the stupa adorned with bright prayer flags, which sway in the wind.

The walls around the stupa contain numerous prayer wheels and the area is lined with Nepali and Tibetan traders, as well as cafes and restaurants.

  1. What an amazing place! My Dad visited there last year, and your photos really make me want to go. I especially loved the dogs. What’s it like communicating with the locals? Can many of them speak English?

    • Glad you liked the photos 🙂
Nepal is a great place to visit. So much to see and enjoy. Even if, like ourselves, you don’t go trekking.
Local people are so so friendly and English is widely spoken in tourist areas on the whole, and a few words here and there off the beaten track.
I can’t speak highly enough of the country from what we’ve experienced so far. You should definitely visit. It’s a very cheap place to be also.
